Nicknamed "the Killer" -- Lewis found himself at an impromptu jam session, with Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins at Sun Studios in December of 1956. The trio was then joined by Johnny Cash. That session marked what became known as the Million Dollar Quartet. Lewis would later become Elvis' replacement on the Sun Records label. He had a dozen gold records in Rock and Country and won four Grammy awards. A pioneer in Rockabilly, Lewis died this week at his home in Mississippi. We're featuring his music on these channels.
