Nicknamed "Sassy" and "The Divine One", Sarah Vaughan -- born March 27, 1924 -- was a four-time Grammy Award winner, including a "Lifetime Achievement Award". The National Endowment for the Arts bestowed upon her its "highest honor in jazz," the NEA Jazz Masters Award, in 1989. She died April 3rd of the following year after battling lung cancer.
