50 years ago: The death of rock guitar god Jimi Hendrix
He'd accomplished so much in just 27 years. He was heralded as one of rock's most innovative and influential guitarists, he was pop music's highest paid artist, and his final studio album (Electric Ladyland) reached #1 in the U.S. He headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 before his accidental death in London from barbiturate-related asphyxia 50 years ago today, September 18, 1970, at the age of 27. This weekend we'll remember the legend and the music of James Marshall Hendrix.
